Overview
Located on the Atlantic coast in southeastern Florida., Miami is Miami-Dade's County Seat. With a population of just under 5 million in its urbanized area, Miami is the fourth largest urban area in the United States behind such cities as Los Angeles, Chicago and New York. The city's proximity to Latin America has ensured a diverse fusion of cultures and backgrounds, with Miami's population heavily influenced by residents originating in Cuba, Haiti, and Nicaragua. Spanish, therefore, is widely spoken throughout the city. Miami features a tropical monsoon climate, with hot and humid summers and short, warm and notably dry winters.
The City's bustling economy is supported by several industries, including a burgeoning Financial Sector as well as a large Biotechnology, Media and Entertainment sector. Several of the world's largest corporations are headquartered in-and-around Miami, including Burger King, Bacardi and CompUSA. Other companies with significant operations in the city include Sony, Disney and Cisco.
The City's Education sector includes a number of world renowned institutions including Florida International University and University of Miami. The city features a thriving Cultural heritage, thanks to the city's diverse fusion of cultural influence from the many different cultural groupings who call Miami home. Getting to Miami
Miami features a number of transport options for visitors to reach the city. International visitors will find air travel t he most convenient transportation method, with Miami International Airport and Fort Lauderdale Airports serving a range of destinations in the area. Visitors can also reach the City by rail or road, with a number of bus routes serving the city also.
